The clients who come to me want to work with “new” materials. I put quotes around the word “new” because they really aren’t new techniques. These alternative methods are time tested, proven techniques, and they’re just just new to us because we’ve become accustomed to mainstream building methods. This is no different with hempcrete. When people ask me if building with hempcrete is a risky decision, I tell them this: I feel that the greater risk is to proceed with using toxic, obsolete conventional materials that we know rot, fail, contain harmful chemicals and attract termites. Risk, here, is a subjective term.
